Joie De Vivre
![]() “Joie de Vivre” (Enjoyment of Life) By: Luscious Lifestyle Diva
Dear Luscious Diva, Welcome to the second edition Joie de Vivre (Enjoyment of Life). At the beginning of the month, I did a salon with Vagina Verite’s Alexandra Jacoby. The topic of the salon was PLEASURE. It the kind of topic where you aren’t sure if it will scare women away or have them rushing to be a part of the conversation. Turns out women were thrilled! It is fun to talk to other luscious women, drink and laugh as we let loose on what pleases us. What was great was to hear women talk about the unique things that give them pleasure. What is your pleasure principle? Hopefully you have one. If you don’t, make one just for you. Find ways to incorporate pleasure into your life on a daily basis. Once you do it gets easier and easier to have a life abundant with pleasure.
Stay luscious, ......joie de vivre! ~YS Ps~ Make sure you check out the events section. I am launching The Courtesan Club, my twist on a sister’s circle. A group for women that is for support, fun, networking, and packed with PLEASURE for the five senses! And Courtesan Crawls in NYC are coming! It is the kind of crawl that will seduce you and make your senses say “oh la la” **************************************************************************************************
Lessons in Lusciousness: I am excited to say that my segment “Lessons in Lusciousness “will be taking on a new format. I have been receiving questions for advice from all over the globe which I answer on my talk show in Manhattan. Since not everyone can see my show live, I am going to be answering the questions by video and putting them up on my online channels on Blip.Tv and You Tube. Feel free to send me your questions and/or spread the word for those who may need advice in love, life, business, etc. No question is a bad one. And last but not least a person can choose to be anonymous...cause I do know how scandelous you divas are... YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/yolandashoshana Blip.tv: http://yolandashoshana.blip.tv/
Luscious Diva: Karen Robinovitz, Creatrix of The Purple Lab Karen Robinovitz is one luscious lady! There is no doubt that her divaluscious lip gloss “Huge Lips, Skinny Hips’ will take the world by storm! http://www.purplelabnyc.com YS: How did you end up as a journalist covering beauty, fashion, and style? KR: I went to school for pre-med and majored in biology, but my senior year, I had the "I don't want to be a doctor" revelation while I was en route to my MCAT study group. As I was driving, I started thinking that if being a doctor was my passion, I wouldn't feel so much dread and misery about the path I was on. It was a cinematic moment - I did a complete 180 in my car on the street, making a totally illegal U-turn and headed back to my apartment. When I got there, my roommate asked me what I was doing home. "You're supposed to be studying," she said. "I can't do it. I'm going to New York. I want to be a writer and cover fashion week and beauty products and all things fabulous," I told her. I don't know where it came from - it literally fell out of my mouth. I was always a beauty and fashion junkie, reading every magazine and trying every product I could get my hands on. I got an internship at WWD's bureau in Atlanta (I went to Emory) and when I moved to New York after graduation, I started working for Fairchild Publications (who owns WWD) immediately. The rest, as they say, is history. I was there for three and a half years before deciding to be freelance and then I wrote for all of the magazines I had always read - Marie Claire, Bazaar, Elle, InStyle, etc. It was such a dream! YS: I love the name for your lifestyle company, Purple Lab. What was your inspiration for starting Purple Lab? KR: I have always consulted for brands and worked with them on their marketing strategies and product launches. But I didn't think to start my own brand until I was at a fashion party with my husband. As I attacked all the passed food, I had that awful feeling of "ring around the waist." You know, when you eat so much that your pants suddenly feel one size too small? I told my husband we had to go home. He was all upset because we had just gotten there. When I sniffed "if my lipgloss would plump my lips and not my hips," that is when the idea for Huge Lips Skinny Hips hit! My instinct was to call a friend at a beauty brand and tell her about the idea so she could make it - so I could buy it. But Todd said, "NO! You make it. You do it. Your whole career has been leading up to this." And here we are, two years later. The name of the company comes from two things - one, the color purple is my favorite. So sexy and playful yet chic. And "Lab" because my brain is always mixing and matching things like a mad scientist and my family has a joke that when I moved to New York City after school, I changed my "lab coat" for a "fab coat."
YS: You just launched some delicious new lip glosses called, Huge Lips Skinny Hip. There are some really cool and clever names for lip glosses. How did you come up with the names? KR: The names of the colors are really just my favorite things and inspirations - and they matched with the shades. Red Sole pays homage to Christian Louboutin, my coveted shoe of choice for that sexy red sole. Lychee Martini is a delicate peach and my favorite cocktail. Kitty Poledancer is a nickname my "gay husband" gave to me because I take pole dancing classes - the best form of exercise! No Panty Lines is clear - and such a cheeky way to put it. Worship Kate gives a shout out to Kate Moss whose style I worship! And so on... YS: With all the lip glosses on the market, what makes Huge Lips Skinny Hips the lip gloss that women should have in their bag? KR: The gloss itself is delicious. It is super silky on the lips and it's not sticky or tacky. Your hair will never get stuck on your lips on a windy day! I hate when that happens! They're very moisturizing, thanks to meadowfoam, , which locks moisture to the lip surface. As a plumper, it doesn't irritate and sting. That was important for me to achieve because I hate when plumpers hurt. This is equipped with a gentle plumping system via Vitamin B3, which stimulates blood flow to the lips. The fruit oils - lemon and orange - act as soothing cooling agents. And then there is Hoodia, an all natural appetite suppressant, which comes from a cactus-like plant indigenous to South Africa. It's been used for centuries for its appetite suppressing qualities! While the gloss has an appetite suppressant, it won't serve as a weight loss tool and that is not how I want women to see it. I hope it helps them set their intentions. For me, it's become my "secret weapon" when I'm at an event and don't want to wind up eating the entire dessert table! Appetite is largely mental - how many times have you been full and found yourself eating another helping of dessert? So if this can act as a way to be more conscious, more power to the makeup! YS: You wrote book called "How to become famous in two weeks or less", besides wearing your delicious lip gloss, give us one tip one on how to become famous! Fame is a branding game. KR: Celebrities are like boxes of cereal, packaged to perfection to deliver a message in every bite. So first, you need to decide what you want your "brand" to convey - are you an "it girl," a power player, an ingénue, etc. Then play the part - it's a lot of smoke and mirrors. Hire a publicist and "spin" your persona into something that is saleable. Fame is not just about being on Perezhilton.com or US Magazine - you can be famous in your own community, the most well known person who gets the best seat at the crowded restaurant - sans rezzie - on Saturday night. Start schmoozing the restaurant staff on "off days" so they know you and love you and respect you - then when you're there on a busy night, you can pull your weight. And if you can, befriend another celebrity! That always helps!
